Clifford Henderson lives and plays in Santa Cruz, California. She runs The Fun Institute, a school of improv and solo performance, with her partner of sixteen years. In their classes and workshops, people learn to access and express the myriad of characters itching to get out. The cross over between improv and writing has so fascinated Clifford that she’s begun teaching Improv for Writers workshops. When she’s not teaching, performing, or writing, she’s gardening and twisting herself into weird yoga poses.

Her novels include: “The Middle of Somewhere”, “Spanking New”, and “Maye’s Request”.
Maye’s Request
She has a history of complicated relationships. Is it her family legacy?
Freshly out of college and possibly in love, Brianna Bell, aka Bean, worries that she’ll never be able to have a normal relationship due to her screwy upbringing. Her parents form a perfect triangle: Mom, Dad, and her mother’s lover—who also happens to be her Dad’s twin sister. The animosity between the twins is a valley of landmines. When her mom, Maye, is threatened with a rare and possibly fatal illness, she begs Bean to help heal the rift between brother and sister. Reluctantly, Bean tries. But the more Bean finds out about her parents’ complicated history, the more she realizes how little she knows.
A story of love, longing, and family.
Spanking New
Getting born is trickier than Spanky ever imagined.
Yearning for life, Spanky chooses Nina, a flighty actress just out of college, and Rick, a sax player who changes tires to get by, to be his parents. Only Nina seems to be hung up on her gay guy friend Pablo, and Nina’s best girlfriend Dink is hung up her! Will Nina and Rick get it together in time to conceive Spanky before he evaporates? And if this hurdle gets crossed, will they choose to keep him? If so, will they and their quarreling families learn to like him?
There’s not much Spanky can do but watch from afar while his fate plays out—and if that’s not scary enough—something else happens that makes Spanky have to completely reevaluate his expectations. He’s a girl!
A poignant, hilarious, unforgettable look at life, love, gender, and the essence of what makes us who we are.
The Middle of Somewhere
Start with one independent, urban lesbian cashing out her life in San Francisco for a second-hand travel trailer and setting off to the Michigan Women’s Music Festival in search of a new life. Add to this a broken down ’66 Mustang, a bunch of small-town Texas Baptists, a ton of fried food, and a church scandal. Pepper this with a hot love interest and a dash of greed and you have all the ingredients you need for this quirky novel about Eadie T. Pratt’s road trip gone awry.

Cliffi…I am so excited for you and can’t wait to read your book!
Loving you from afar,
Bayla
Hi Cliffi!
I really like the cover. I was hoping to read a page or two to peek my interest, you know, like Amazon does with their books. Anyway, looking forward to the release date. All the best, steve c.
Steve,
Cliffi is currently on vacation, but when she gets back, I’ll find out if she’d like to post the first chapter of her book here. She won’t be able to do that if she’s still working through edits, but I’ll definitely mention it.
Yay Clifford!!!! Go Go Go!!
Will you please sign my copy! I can’t wait!!
Hey Steve,
Still gotta get the book copyedited. Once that’s done I’ll post an excerpt. I’ll see about getting a synopsis posted.
Thanks for caring Luis, Bayla, and Steve. You guys rock!
Cliffi
Hi Clifford,
I have had these weird daydreams about slyly following you around the country on your book tours and surprising you by showing up at every single darn one.
Congrats Cliffi, you are so inspiring!
